Every child wants a good education and I am sure nothing would make a parent prouder than to see their son or daughter live the life of their dreams.😊
Have you ever met someone so young yet so passionate about advocating for the rights of those who are less fortunate? I once wrote about Ruth Ambasa who is a girl child representative in Kibra and volunteers with the Haki Group. If you didn’t read the story, find it here. http://cynthiauntamed.com/2016/11/06/ruth-ambasa-girlstakeover/
Despite her circumstances, she knows that one day she will become a nurse. She is struggling financially but she has never sat down to complain. Citizens, it’s the little things. This is Ruth’s story and she needs you and me to give her a chance to go to school as evidenced by the attached images.
Meet 19 year old Ruth who schooled at Olympic Primary School in Kibra from class 1 to 4 between 2004 and 2007📚.
In 2007, the country was hit by one of the worst kind of unrests in many years😰. The post election violence is an event that our country should never go back to🙏. The same violence that disrupted many lives including Ruth’s since she had to transfer to Western Kenya where she lived with her grandmother. After sitting her KCPE back in her rural home, she scored 282 out of the possible 500 marks. Unfortunately, her grandmother passed on in 2011.
It was so hard for her to join high school and she stayed out for a term. In 2012, she got a partial scholarship to join Pistis Academy in Nakuru. This was in the second term in form one. Just as she had finally settled in the school system, the owner of the school who was funding her education withdrew his support in 2013 when she had just cleared form 2. Sadly, Ruth was out of school again until 2014 in second term when her family organised a Harambee. Together with the support of an organization called Shelter Arise, she joined Gikurune Girls High School in Meru where she sat for KCSE and scored a C+. Her mother took a loan from Equity Bank which was put together with money collected in a fundraising in church that catered for her last year of high school.
In 2016, Ruth had the hopes of joining an institution of higher learning but her former school withheld her certificate due to the financial balance that she had left behind. Another harambee was held to offset the balance.
Despite not being able to join University when she hoped, she continuously educated herself because she is determined👏. For two months, she took a free employability course that was offered by SHOFCO. She took another free course offered by Generation Kenya on Financial Capability for a further three months👍.
‘Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world,’ 💪said Nelson Mandela. Kenyan’s, let us find it in our hearts to give to those who need us. Ruth needs 63 thousand Kenya shillings to join KMTC Mombasa by 31/03/2017.💰
You never know who your neighbour will become tomorrow but we are certain about one thing…. that blessed is the hand that gives.🙏
